Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic also a speaker who is Canadian. She created Feminist Frequency, a web site which features video and posts analyzing the portrayals of females in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic who has won awards for her work. She is an activist blogger. She is the creator as well as the executive director for Feminist Frequency a non-profit educational site that examines the representation of women within popular stories of culture. Dispelling stereotypes of women is the primary focus of her work. In addition, she strives to raise awareness about problems like targeting and bullying of women online. A graduate in the field of political and social thinking from York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after speaking engagement and has given keynote speeches at TEDxWomen's Women XOXO Festival as well as at the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. From an early age Sarkeesian was interested in issues of gender identity and feminist theories. When she was still in school, in 2009 she developed her Feminist Frequency site. The ambitious lady planned to begin a web series examining gender representation in video games and found herself the target of a harassment online campaign. The attack did not stop her, but instead strengthened the determination of feminist media critic. Her work has earned her numerous awards in recognition of her many prominent contributions to the field of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for many years and founded Feminist Frequency, an non-profit educational organization that studies gender representation in popular culture.
